Who can register for Delhi Marriage Certificate?

To register themseleves for Delhi Marriage Certificate, the couple must keep in mind the following eligibility standards.

a) The minimum age of the bride should be 18 years, while that of the groom must be 21 years.
b) The marriage must have took place within the boundaries of the Delhi state.
c) One of the spouses must have a residential proof of any Delhi locality.
d) In case of second marriage, the former spouse must be legally separated or dead.
e) The couple must claim their free consent towards the marriage.

About Hindu Marriage Act, 1955

Under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, the either spouse must follow the religional practices of Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism or Sikhism. Some of the key points under this act of marriage have been specified below.

  • One of the spouse, either bride or groom must possess the nationality of India.
  • The wedding cereremony must have been solemnized within the territorial boundaries of state of Delhi.

About Special Marriage Act, 1954

Under Special Marriage Act, 1954 two persons of different religions are legalized and declared as official husband and wife. Almost all of the features and specifications are as same as of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, except for the two below mentioned points:-

  • The couple must be following any religion except for Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism or Jainism.
  • Further, the couple must present three witnesses of their wedding ceremony in front of the Marriage Registrar.

How to register for Delhi Marriage Certificate?

As already mentioned, the unregistered couples of the Delhi state must register their marriage as soon as possible. Such couples can do the registration process via online as well as offline mode. Application Procedure- Online

The Delhi Government facilitates the online registration process through the online portal of eDistrict Portal of the state. The tedious process of Delhi marriage registration has been effortless with the portal. A detailed step by step guide for registration has been discussed below for the reference.

Step I:- Firstly, the unregistered couples need to visit the official website of e-District Delhi. The homepage of the same will open.

Step II:- On the homepage of the website, under the Citizen’s Corner section, you will find the option of List of Services available at e-District Delhi. Click on “Registration of Marriage” link.

Step III:- The following page will appear. If you are a registered user of the eDistrict Delhi portal, log in using your username and password. Otherwise, click on the “Register” link beneath the dialog box.

Step IV:- Register using your Aadhaar Number or Voter ID and proceed accordingly. After successful registration, you must log in to your e-District Delhi profile.

Step V:- Click on the “Apply for Services” button followed by “Registration of Marriage”. An application form will appear on the screen.

Step VI:- Enter the requisite details, like Date of Marriage, Venue details, basic info about the couple, details about the witness, etc. Book the appointment date, thereafter, according to your preferences.

Step VII:- After that, the applicants need to upload the scanned images of the supporting documents in the prescribed format set by the concerned authorities. Preview the application form before the final submission. Rectify the errors, if any.

Step VIII:- Click on the “Submit” button. Save a copy of the acknowledgement slip being dispalyed over the screen for further processes. Take a print out of the same.

Appointment with Marriage Registrar

Step IX:- The couple needs to carry all the original documents and the acknowledgement slip along with an Affidavit on the appointment date to the Marriage Registrar’s Office. A link to download the Affidavit Form has been provided below.

Step X:- The officer will verify the documents and other details. Also, presence of witnesses is mandatory. Upon successful verification and validation, your Marriage Certificate will be issued.

Application Procedure- Offline

The couples can also opt for the offline medium for the Delhi Marriage Registration process. Check the procedure described below for the same.

  • To apply in an offline manner, the couples need to visit the Sub-Registrar office.
  • Obtain an application form to apply for Marriage Certificate from the concerned department.
  • Fill in the form with utmost carefullness and accuracy.
